60th Intervarsity Festival Choir and Hobart Wind Symphony, conducted by Simon Reade and June Tyzack, with soloists Amy and Christopher Richardson, present world premiere works by Don Kay and Matthew Orlovich, the choral version of Tchaikovsky’s "1812 Festival Overture", Borodin’s "Polovtsian Dances", and Tippett’s sublime Negro Spirituals from "A Child of Our Time".

Intervarsity Choral Festival comes to Hobart for the first time in ten years!
Join us for a gala concert celebrating sixty years of Intervarsity Choral Festivals. A rare opportunity to hear Tchaikovsky’s "1812 Festival Overture" with massed voices and wind symphony, as well as Borodin’s "Polovtsian Dances" and Tippett’s sublime Negro Spirituals from "A Child of Our Time".
The concert will feature the world premiere of Matthew Orlovich’s setting of Roland Robinson’s poem "The Blue Gum Forest", commissioned for the 60th Intervarsity Choral Festival. Don Kay’s "Northward the Strait", commissioned for the Bicentenary and performed in 1989 as a choral suite of four poems by Gwen Harwood, will be heard for the first time with Harwood’s originally commissioned six poems, re-orchestrated for soprano, baritone, chorus and wind symphony.
Don’t miss this “once in a decade” concert.
