A tale of fun, mischief and mistaken identity

Based on the legendary tale by Spanish author Cervantes, The Dancers Company, the regional touring arm of The Australian Ballet, presents the delightfully playful ballet classic Don Quixote, playing at Riverside Theatres for two performances only on Tuesday 31 July and Wednesday 1 August.

This timeless ballet tells the story of the knight Don Quixote, who is on a quest to find the lady of his wild and vivid imagination, Lady Dulcinea. On his journey he crosses paths with two swooning young lovers, Kitri and Basilio, who are determined to marry despite her father’s wishes for her to marry the very rich nobleman, Gamache.

Set in a Spanish seaside village, this light-hearted and colourful ballet features a rich diversity of characters. Its dramatic liveliness and virtuosic dancing makes it the perfect showcase for The Dancers Company's many talented dancers.

The Dancers’ Company has been taking dance to the furthest reaches of Australia for over 30 years, and in 2012 they are travelling even more widely than ever before. The Dancers Company comprises guest artists of The Australian Ballet and graduating students from The Australian Ballet School. Generations of dancers have performed Don Quixote, including Rudolf Nureyev, Margot Fonteyn and Mikhail Baryshnikov. In presenting Don Quixote, we continue the legacy of The Dancers Company, passing the baton between the legends of the past to the stars of today and the future stars of tomorrow.
