La Mirada Spanish Film Festival
Taken on: Friday, March 02, 2007
by

"The inaugural La Mirada Spanish Film Festival grand opening night took place at the hot Federation Square venue ACMI on Friday night 2/3/07... It was a gathering of industry heavyweights, government officials (incl. the honourable mayor John So), leaders from the Spanish community, film enthusiasts/buffs, the media and Melbourne's A-list socialites... The opening night attendees were treated to the Australian Premiere of Dark Blue Almost Black, a striking and highly original film from first time director, Daniel Sanchez Arevalo, who have created a hilariously subtle, beautifully acted, thoroughly entertaining and very human comedy. The movie's unique plot explores how to make the most of it when life throws us into unexpected directions. Tears one second and laughter the next, it is a remarkable piece of Spanish cinema... Then the opening night revellers continued the celebration at the after party which featured an entertaining performance by Tim Rogers and his band. The festival will continue until the 10th of March 2007. Definitely worth checking out if you are in town... - Words & Pics by Antony Young"
