What's On

Fraught Outfit presents PERSONA
based on the film by Ingmar Bergman, translated by Keith Bradfield

Bergman's cinematic masterpiece boldly re-imagined for the stage.

One night, during a performance of Elektra, an actress falls silent, and from then on, refuses to speak. The nurse assigned to her recovery, takes her to a remote seaside cottage. Very quickly, this safe house transforms into a site of terror and isolation, as patient and nurse grow dangerously close.

A nightmarish poem about identity, intimacy and the limits of the spoken word.

Bergman's Persona was released in 1966, starring Liv Ullman and Bibi Andersson.

Fraught Outfit was launched in 2010 with its production of Sophocle's Elektra, translated by Anne Carson. Elektra was nominated for 3 Green Room Nominations, including Best Direction (Independent) and was included on Theatre Notes Best Shows of 2010 list.

Persona is to you by the creative team of Martin Crimp's The City at Red Stitch - 2010 Green Room nominee for Best Actress, Best Set Design (Dayna Morrissey), and Best Production – Companies.

Quotes for The City:

'Jacobs shows a bold theatrical's certainly difficult to imagine a more intelligent production.' Alison Croggon – Theatre Notes

'inspiring and unconventional...brilliantly directed and performed.' Liza Dezfouli – Australian Stage Online

For Elektra:

'As we exhaled in all catharsis, I realised that Adena Jacobs' strong no nonsense direction would have left a 5thcentury Athenian quite at home' – Peter Green, 3MBS

'In the mouths of this accomplished cast, around a stunning central plays with a compelling muscularity.' – Alison Croggon, Theatre Notes
