Cosi fan Tutte
presented by Melbourne Opera

Melbourne Opera's
10TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON

Presents

Cosi fan Tutte

Mozart's great comic masterpiece Cosi Fan Tutte is the winter offering from Melbourne Opera.

Greg Hocking, conductor and co-founder, said Melbourne Opera had deliberately chosen Cos Fan Tutte as one of its 10th Anniversary season operas because of its huge appeal across all ages.

'Melbourne Opera is about making opera accessible to people who love opera as well as newcomers to the tradition of opera,' said Mr Hocking.

'Cosi Fan Tutte is a wonderful introduction to opera and is much loved by fans, and follows on from Carmen and La Boheme,' he added.

Melbourne Opera has again assembled a superb cast for this production under the direction of leading director Suzanne Chaundry.

Suzanne has updated the traditional story to 1960s Melbourne. The revised story revolves on two young soldiers who are in love with very protected Italian sisters. The sisters are left under the 'care' of the housekeeper Despina while the parents return to the old country for a holiday.

The boys pretend to be drafted to Vietnam and return disguised as hippies with all the possibilities that the exciting new era of free love offers.

Confusion and high comedy ensues, combined with a somewhat more serious examination of the nature of love and attraction.

Regarded as one of Mozart and Da Ponte's greatest achievements, the opera features arias and ensembles unmatched in their musical and dramatic perfection.

Amongst the cast are:

Danielle Calder as Fiordiligi
Victoria Lambourn as Dorabella
Roy Best as Ferrando
Phillip Calcagno as Guglielmo
Andrea Creighton Despina
And that fine veteran
Roger Howell recreating his hilarious Don Alfonso

Mozart and Da Ponte's classic comedy of love, attraction and fidelity will be performed in English and conducted by Greg Hocking.
