Young Ellie (Hayley Atwell) is unexpectedly put in charge of a retirement home over Christmas. Remaining at the home are four grumpy and difficult residents - retired actress Georgia (Vanessa Redgrave), spinsters Hazel (Imelda Staunton) and Heather (Brenda Fricker), and reformed alcoholic, Donald (Joss Ackland).
