Let yourself be carried away on a musical journey through Australia’s heartland in a Festival closing event for the whole family.

Inspired by the words of the Miles Franklin Award-winning author Alexis Wright and set against a stunning film backdrop, dirtsong features songs performed in 11 different Aboriginal dialects by members of The Black Arm Band Company and special guests.

The Black Arm Band Company is a collection of some of the country’s premiere Indigenous artists, including many of our own Territory talents. The ensemble performs, promotes and celebrates contemporary Australian Indigenous music as a symbol of resilience and hope in the spirit and action of reconciliation.

dirtsong mixes traditional approaches and contemporary songs, existing repertoire and newly commissioned music to conjure a sense of ‘country’ as not only a sense of geographical place, but as encounters, memories, obligations, community and nature. A moving performance of music, language, culture and identity, dirtsong evokes a new emotional map of Australia’s heartland while awakening some of its sleeping languages. The result is a musical journey to stir the soul.

Starring Mark Atkins, Will Barton, Lou Bennett, Deline Briscoe, Emma Donovan, Dewayne Everettsmith, Shane Howard, Trevor Jamieson, Djolpa Mckenzie, Shellie Morris, Stephen Pigram, Dan Sultan and special guest Tim Rogers.
