Hugo Race eturns to Australia fresh from an European tour and announces a Brisbane performance at X&Y Bar, in support of his first album as a solo artist – NO BUT IT’S TRUE, due for release June 10. Hugo will be showcasing tracks from No But It’s True and exploring the theme of love through interpreting covers from a maelstrom of music eras going back as far as the fifties, but including greats such as “I’m On Fire” which is reflective of Hugo’s love of primitive folk and blues songs from decades past. “I wanted to zoom in on lyrics, strip away arrangement and production and deliver these sentiments with just a guitar and some minimal overdubs.”....... While on tour in Europe, Race filmed a video for “I’m On Fire” in Sicily.

A prolific and visionary performer, HUGO RACE is also an internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter and producer. A founding member of NICK CAVE’S BAD SEEDS and the seminal Australian 80s cult band THE WRECKERY, RACE has released 14 True Spirit albums and collaborated with artists from Sao Paolo to Rome, Berlin, London, Tucson, Brussels, Warsaw, Mali, Africa and beyond, including collaborations such as DIRTMUSIC (their ‘BKO’ album, recorded in Bamako, Africa cited as one of the best albums of 2010), the French-American band LILIUM, the Brazilian project MOSES COMPLEX, the London-based PANTALEIMON, the Berlin-based ROGALL’S ELECTRIC CIRCUS SIDESHOW, the Sicilian band SEPIATONE, the European ‘supergroup’ SONGS WITH OTHER STRANGERS and the Italian multimedia project MEROLA MATRIX. In 2011, RACE’S album ‘FATALISTS’ received rave reviews globally. In August RACE will be seen on ROCKWIZ, one of Australia’s favourite music quiz shows.

Joining Hugo at X&Y Bar will be Melbourne band, LEEK & THE WAR WICK TRAGEDY who are excited to be accompanying Hugo on the NO BUT IT’S TRUE tour. The band is the brainchild of Melbournian Luke Humphries known as “LEEK” who is one of the relatively few darker composers emerging from the youth of today, together with record producer Scott Blackman who combine and draw influences from great classic artists such as The Beatles, Leonard Cohen as well as contemporaries like Brian Jonestown Massacre to make their sophisticated, but raw sound.
