Check this out...craft beer in can?

It's already quite common in the US but, apart from limited and isolated examples from Coopers and James Squire, it hasn't hit our shores yet. We have been hearing whispers that this is soon to change...

To get you in the mood for the new wave of cans, our second August Hump Day on the 22nd will feature some cantastic new beers from the US from Uncommon Brewers.

Uncommon Brewers is a community-oriented organic microbrewery beginning operations in Santa Cruz county. Incorporating traditional Belgian brewing techniques, cutting-edge innovation from the modern West Coast, and grounded in the principles of sustainability voiced by the Slow Food Movement, our goal is to make uncommon beers for uncommon people.

Siamese Twin Ale
Belgian-style Dubbel brewed with lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and coriander. 8.5% ABV. The beer should be malt forward, with clear esters in the nose and floral notes of lemongrass and kaffir leaf. The coriander and lemongrass meld in the finish to help balance the deep body of this dubbel.

Golden State Ale
(Bronze : 2012 Australian International Beer Awards)
A Belgian-style Golden ale brewed with toasted poppy seeds. 6.4% ABV. There are prominent esters in the nose, some grassy pilsner character in the rounded malt body, and a subtle bite of poppy seeds on the finish.

Baltic Porter
(GOLD : 2012 Australian International Beer Awards / Runner up for Best International Lager category)
This is a Baltic Porter brewed with whole liquorice root and star anise. 7.8% ABV. It is fermented warm with an ale yeast in flagrant disregard of modern style guidelines, instead working towards a heritage pre-lager treatment of the style. Subtle liquorice and anise notes are present in the nose. The body is surprisingly light, with liquorice sweetness helping to balance a smoky chocolate malt character. There should be clear notes of roasted barley on the finish.

Bacon Brown Ale
A nut brown ale brewed with buckwheat and bacon-cured pork. 6.8% ABV. This beer features crisp noble hop aroma and a subtle smokiness from the bacon. Initial hop bitterness on the body melds with the toasted buckwheat for a nutty malt character. The flavour of bacon will be subtle, primarily on the finish, growing more apparent as the beer is consumed. The bacon isn't intended as a stunt addition, but instead as a complement to the natural character of a nut brown.
