String Sensations - National Youth Concerto Competition

Three of Australias brightest young stars compete in the 33rd National Youth Concert Competition, performing some of the most popular string concertos with Queensland Youth Symphony.

History of NYCC: The NYCC is the most significant competition in Australia for string players aged up to 17 years. It was established in 1976 by the QYO Director of Music and founder John Curro AM MBE. The competition showcases the talent of young musicians and rewards their dedication and commitment to excellence.

Previous winners and finalists of NYCC have gone on to great success in their musical careers both nationally and internationally. They recognise the NYCC experience as an essential part of their musical education. Richard Tognetti, Director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra and winner of the 1980 NYCC, acknowledges that his NYCC experience of high-wire concerto performance was an essential part of his musical education, and that being there on stage, with all the pressures of performance, is something that cant be practised at home.
