La! accents - Friday 11th July is Bastille Day & Empire are spreading the French fever by paying homage to one of the finer points of French history & culture – banging ass, cool as F*ck French Electro Music!
‘French Touch’, ‘Neu-disco’ or ‘Tekfunk’– call it whatever the f*@k you want (pardon our French) but within this world reputations don’t come much higher than Parisian, Jerry Bouthier!
Bouthier is a Paris-born but London-based DJ and producer. Known for playing a mix of indie, electro, Italian Disco, rock and pop, while avoiding the big obvious ‘mash up’ tunes that are normally relied on, Bouthier focuses on the daring and the original.
His reputation continues to grow, especially after the 2007 release of the acclaimed Kitsune Boombox compilation, released on the uber-cool Kitsune Maison record label. In fact, such is the relationship between Bouthier and chic label Kitsune, the Parisian is the only DJ to mix a Kitsuné compilation. Bouthier is also the resident spinner for Kitsuné parties held at both ends of the Eurostar.
As his relationship with Kitsuné demonstrates, he digs cutting-edge electronic music that’s fused with the odd pop moment. But this jock’s take on the mainstream is different. He takes the poppy stuff and plays it alongside the harder material. It’s this diversity that continues to surprise dance-floors.
Bouthier is not one to play it safe and churn out the same sound or style. As he says, most people like all kinds of music, so why not reflect that in clubs? After all, dance music is supposed to be fun.
There is more to this Parisian that meets the eye. Along with studio partner Andrea Gorgerino, and under the production guise of JBAG, Bouthier has remixed a selection of original tracks for high calibre artists that include Kylie, Rex The Dog and S Express.
Jerry is joined by the crème de la crème’ of Brand Spank’d residents, including a special guest performance from Daft Spunk (Christopher Robin in Daft Punk Mode) alongside the likes of French aficionado’s Steve Tamsitt & Chop Shop DJs…
