What is it about Fawlty Towers? The world-famous TV series ran for just 12 episodes in the 1970s, but it still tops comedy polls, with fans raving about its genius. Since 1997 this genius has been mimicked to huge acclaim in ‘Faulty Towers - the Dining Experience’, a loosely-scripted '13th episode' that features all the best gags.
Interactive and site-specific, the show starts as guests are seated in the restaurant of the Fawlty Towers hotel. For the next two hours, the characters of Sybil, Basil and Manuel serve the audience with their meal; Basil is snobbishly manic, Sybil's a battleaxe, and Manuel – of course – is hopelessly language-challenged. Everything that can go wrong, does – and audiences love it!
Already a hit in Australia with sell-out seasons at both the Adelaide Fringe Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival since 2007, the show made its international debut at last year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it won five-star reviews, packed houses, and commitments from the likes of The Lowry to stage further performances. So much in demand is the show, that Interactive Theatre Australia has three performance teams regularly appearing at venues throughout the world.
